Kiteboarding / Kitesurfing is an exciting sports that is very similar to wakeboarding but instead of being pulled by a boat…you guessed it…you use a kite and a little help from Mother Nature!
Scratch kiteboarding is now offering a wide variety of Kiteboarding lessons from beginner to advanced. Our professional staff, latest kiteboarding equipment and “personalized” lesson plans makes us the best kiteboarding school in the Wilmington, NC area. Our instructor are US Coast Guard Licensed Captains as well as CPR and First Aid certified.
Due to it’s unique challenges, kiteboarding requires proper knowledge about equipment and environmental conditions (wind speed, direction, tides, currents, high/low pressure systems, etc). Scratch Kiteboarding is dedicated to providing a lesson that suits your comfort and experience level. If you are just visiting Wilmington, NC or live in the area, we can help you learn how to safely fly a kite, ride a board on the water, and help you “on your way” to becoming a confident and safe kiteboarder!
Intro to Kiteboarding “Grounded”- $99 (1.5 Hours)
This lesson is will cover the basic steps needed to help you become a safe kiteboarder. This class includes: gear rigging, gear tuning and maintenance, rider safety and responsibility, “reading the wind”, and launching and landing a trainer kite. This class is held entirely on land. Maximum 4 students.
Intermediate Kiteboarding – $250 (2 Hours) / $375 (3 Hours)
After learning how to safely control and fly a trainer kite, you are now ready to take off the “training wheels”! In this course, you will learn how to rig a 4-line kite, safely launch and land a water kite, body dragging, water launches, self rescue, emergency procedures. Maximum 2 students.
Advanced Kiteboarding – $250 (2 Hours) / $375 (3 Hours)
This class will cover board riding, transitions, and riding “switch”. If you do not have any boarding experience (wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, etc) we recommend a “Board Lesson”. Class is held on the water with PWC assistance. Maximum 2 students.
Board Lesson “Bored”- $200 (1.5 Hours)
Don’t have any miles logged on a board? Lets leave the kite packed and get you comfortable just riding! Perfect for light winds days but you still want to practice. Maximum 2 students.
Semi Private Lesson- $150/1st Hour, $99/2nd Hour onward (per person)
Want to share this experience with a friend? Then this is the class for you. Invite a friend to join and the both of you can learn how to kite together. This class is catered to your comfort and experience level. Maximum 2 students.
Private Lesson / PWC Assist $175/1st hr, $125/2nd hour, $99/3rd hour onward
This course will offer maximum attention from our instructor with full PWC assistance! If you just want to “ride” or do a “downwinder” with the added comfort and safety of a standby jetski or you just want to take the extra time to learn at your own pace then this is for you! This is the only One on One Lesson!
Watersports such as wakeboarding, standup paddleboarding, and kiteboarding can be a dangerous endeavor. Changing weather and surf conditions can make the ocean unpredictable. At Scratch Kiteboarding, your safety is our “Number One” concern. All lessons will include an in-depth ocean safety brief and stretching/ fitness component before ever entering the water. Our intermediate and advanced kiteboard lessons will utilize our Jetski to follow our students. We take zero risks when it comes to your safety, so there is always a chance a lesson or camp may be rescheduled in the event of unsafe conditions. All of our instructors are certified in CPR, first aid and have extensive ocean safety knowledge and lifesaving abilities.
